New Global Health Funding Initiative Announced in NEJM

Tadataka Yamada, M.D. , President of the Global Health Program of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, shares his perspective on global health and announces the launch of the Grand Challenges Explorations, a $100 million initiative which will supplement the current grant making by funding hundreds of innovative early-stage projects over the course of 5 years, investing $100,000 in each one, in this week’s issue of The New England Journal of Medicine.

“We want bold ideas — even seemingly wacky ones — that need just a little help to get tested,” says Yamada. Submissions deadline is May 31 and they should be entered on the Grand Challenges in Global Health website starting March 31 for a first set of four ambitious challenges.
