Unnatural causes… Is inequality making us sick?

PBS airs the first episode of its new series, Unnatural causes… Is inequality making us sick?, nationally tonight, March 2, and for three consecutive Thursdays (April 3, 10, 17 at 10 PM) – check your local PBS station for airtime.

This PBS documentary series explores racial and socioeconomic inequities in health care in the United States. The opening 56-minute episode, “In Sickness and In Wealth,” presents the series’ overarching themes. Each supporting half-hour episode, set in a different ethnic/racial community, provides a deeper exploration of how social conditions affect population health and how some communities are extending their lives by improving them. Nancy Krieger, Professor at the Harvard School of Public Health and co-director of the HSPH Interdisciplinary Concentration on Women, Gender, and Health, is featured in both the opener and the second episode, “When the Bough Breaks.”

In the sixth installment, “Collateral Damage,” Dr. Jim Yong Kim, Founder of the Global Health Delivery Project, will address the history of Tuberculosis in the U.S.
