Addressing the Threat of Drug Resistant TB, A Realistic Assessment of the Challenges

The Institute of Medicine Forum on Drug Discovery, Development, and Translation is convening a one-day meeting of international experts to examine the rapid rise in multidrug-resistant TB, evaluate the effectiveness of current strategies to combat the growing crisis, and consider priorities and strategies for confronting the emergence of TB strains that are resistant to currently available second line drugs. The meeting will introduce a paper by Partners In Health which presents new information and analysis on the epidemiology of MDRTB, the efforts at controlling its spread, and the obstacles to effective treatment.
