Medical Education Day at Harvard: GHDonline demo this afternoon

This afternoon, I will give a demonstration of the GHDonline Clinical Exchange community at the eighth annual Harvard Medical Education Day. Launched in March 2009, Clinical Exchange is a secured online collaboration space where Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Partners In Health Rwanda clinicians discuss and manage complex clinical cases they encounter in the field. This community is one of more than twenty-five private communities hosted on GHDonline.

Sponsored by The Academy at Harvard Medical School and the Program in Medical Education, the Harvard Medical Day event is open to all HMS faculty and will take place from Noon to 5:30PM at the Joseph B. Martin Conference Center in the Longwood Medical Area.

New Global Health Nursing and Midwifery Community on GHDonline

We are delighted to announce the launch of the Global Health Nursing and Midwifery Community on GHDonline, the online platform developed by Global Health Delivery (GHD) where more than 1,800 health care implementers representing 600+ organizations across 100+ countries share proven practices, connect with colleagues, and find resources they need to improve health outcomes.

Created at the initiative of several nurses and midwives to address a wide range of topics from international partnerships to human rights, the community will serve the growing network of health professionals involved and interested in the field of global health. “We hope this community will lead to further collaboration and information sharing among nurses and midwives working on global health projects,” says Donna Barry, a Nurse Practitioner, co-moderator, and Advocacy and Policy Director at Partners In Health.

“I would like to invite nurses, midwives, and other health professionals to join this community today. Among many other things, members can engage in real-time problem-solving with peers via email, share lessons learned, and publish information resources such as documents and links,” adds co-moderator  Sarah Marsh, a Midwife at Partners In Health.

Sheila Davis, a faculty member at the MGH Institute for Health Professions and co-founder of the non-profit organization, Sibusiso, a Boston-based NGO working in South Africa and the Boston area, states that “Participation in this community has the potential to tremendously enrich our experience leading to better care for our patients and stronger programs in the field.”

The Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions at Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, Antoinette Hays, plans to use the site’s email and information exchange capabilities to learn more about how other successful international college and university partnerships have been developed.  And Linda Lindquist Hassan from the University of Maryland’s School of Nursing Office of Global Health and Nurses for Global Health is “thrilled to participate in this new collaboration as an online facilitator. This service will help nurses define their leadership role in global health, foster networking, and bridge gaps in knowledge on this topic.”
