  1. Dear Sir/Madam,

At Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Erasmus Medical Center (EMC), the Institute of Health Policy and Management (IHPM), and the Institute for Social Studies (ISS) are joining forces to start a Rotterdam Global Health Initiative. Health Service Delivery will be one of the focal points of research and education. It connects to the international strenghts of ISS and the public health department of EMC with the management and policy expertise of IHPM. All three institutes are internationally leading in their fields. We are currently building our network of national and international partners and are open to explore connecting to your beautiful and respected Global Health Delivery project. Please let us now if you are interested and if so how to proceed.

    Kind regards,

    Joris van de Klundert

  2. Dear Global Health Delivery Project,

I am writing to introduce you to the global health documentary series LIFE Before Death.

The project is made possible with the support of The Lien Foundation, The International Association for the Study of Pain, The Mayday Fund, The Union For International Cancer Control and the Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice.

This advocacy initiative is broadly about the global crisis in untreated pain and the delivery of palliative care services in both resource-rich and resource-poor settings.

The production team filmed in 11 countries with dozens of leading health professionals from around the world including Dr Kathleen Foley (USA), Dr MR Rajagopal (India), Professor Michael Cousins (Australia), Dr Balfour Mount (Canada), Dr Anne Merriman (Uganda), Professor Joan Marston (South Africa) and Dr Cynthia Goh (Singapore).

A feature film will be released in late 2011 followed by a one-hour TV documentary. The project is voiced by popular British actor David Suchet CBE (Poirot, Maxwell).

50 Short Films have also been produced which are releasing at a rate of one per week, 14 of which are currently available to watch here:

    http://www.youtube.com/lifebeforedeathmovie

All of the Short Films are freely available for health professionals to download for training and advocacy purposes from http://www.lifebeforedeath.com/movie

The goal of the project is to raise awareness around the contributing factors responsible for the unnecessarily high levels of untreated pain in the world and more broadly the medical practice of palliative care.

I hope you find the project interesting and do us the great honour of making mention of it on your site.

Alternately the Pain Policy Studies Group post a weekly blog about each short film at http://painpolicy.wordpress.com/life-before-death-short-films/ if you would like to publish from these.

I can provide an electronic press kit containing more information for your reference if required.

    Best Wishes,
    Sue
