Co-founder and Executive Vice President of Partners In Health, Paul Farmer, M.D., Ph.D., is Maude and Lillian Presley Professor of Social Medicine and Chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and Chief of the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Medical anthropologist and physician, Dr. Farmer has dedicated his life to treating some of the world’s poorest populations, in the process helping to raise the standard of health care in underdeveloped areas of the world.
Michael Porter is the Bishop William Lawrence University Professor, based at Harvard Business School. Prof. Porter is a leading authority on competitive strategy and is often credited with developing the field of comparative microeconomic strategy analysis. Since 2001, Prof. Porter has devoted considerable attention to the field of health care has been noted for applying “value chain” concepts to health care delivery, and has been leading The Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, which focuses on competition and its implications for company strategy; the competitiveness of nations, regions and cities; and solutions to social problems; and on disseminating this research to scholars and practitioners on a global basis.
Rebecca Weintraub, M.D., Executive Director, is an Associate Physician in the Division of Social Medicine and Health Inequalities, a member of the Hospitalist Service at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Co-founder of Jumpstart, the largest part-time AmeriCorps program in the nation, she also serves as a technical advisor to Ashoka, promoting the work of Health Entrepreneurs. Her previous work promoted access for HIV positive mothers and their children in Zimbabwe. Dr. Weintraub graduated from Yale University, Stanford Medical School and completed her medical training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Joseph Rhatigan, M.D., Director of Curriculum Development, is Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Global Health Equity Residency Program at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he is also a faculty member in the Division of Global Health Equity. Dr. Rhatigan graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he practices hospital medicine. He has held a number of leadership positions in post graduate medical education. Dr. Rhatigan is also one of the co-directors of the summer program in Global Health Effectiveness.
