Yesterday, March 13th, the Peace Corps, the U.S. Presidents’ Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the Global Health Service Corps (GHSC) launched a new partnership, the Global Health Service Partnership (GHSP), to place nurses, physicians and other health professionals as adjunct faculty in medical or nursing schools overseas for one year. Ten to 12 health professionals are expected to be placed in training institutions in each of three partner countries – Tanzania, Malawi and Uganda – in 2012/2013. The medical volunteers will include board eligible or board certified doctors in core specialties and nursing volunteers who have completed a BNS/MPH, MSN, NP, DRN, or PHD and have a minimum number of three years of both clinical and teaching experience. GHSP anticipates scaling up deployment to additional countries and disciplines in subsequent years, with an application process starting in September 2012.
