For nearly three decades, Dr. Terry Hannan has been working to improve medical care delivery through technology innovations both in his home country of Australia and East Africa.
This week in GHDonline’s Health Information Technology Community, Hannan describes his innovations in developing a low-cost summary health record to serve as a communication tool with his patients who live near and far. Hannan works as an internist and clinical health informatician in Tasmania, Australia.
“Many patients live in remote areas of northern Tasmania so access to care is difficult and costly (ambulance, car, light airplane),” Hannon wrote. “Many patients use direct email communications with me as their clinical support and this has many benefits including reduced visits to the hospital and real time management of blood glucose control and blood pressure. “
Log into GHDonline now to view Hannan’s example patient records and tracking tools and to contribute your experiences and questions to the discussion.
In a few weeks, GHDonline’s Health IT community will host another expert panel around implementing hospital electronic medical records systems. Veteran implementers will share the wisdom they gained as early adopters and field questions from the community.
The GHDonline team looks forward to your contributions to the discussions!
