GHDonline Expert Panel: Funding Challenges for Non-Communicable Diseases in Resource-Limited Settings

Formerly considered to be “diseases of the rich,” it is now clear that chronic, non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease, and cancer, pose devastating health threats in low- and middle-income countries. Described by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon as “a public health emergency in slow motion,” NCDs are receiving attention from the global health community.

In September, the United Nations will hold a high-level summit on non-communicable diseases. Progress on this front will require substantial new funding, which poses challenges and concerns to the global health community.

From June 17 to June 24, experts and professionals working to find funding for NCDs in resource-limited settings are addressing questions around costs, funding, and priority shifting in a virtual panel discussion on GHDonline.org.

This panel is occurring in the Endemic Non-Communicable Diseases community on GHDonline.org. If you are not a member yet, sign up now for free. If you are already a member of GHDonline.org, simply sign in and go to the community to participate.
